THANK YOU FOR SILENCING YOUR CELL PHONE.
BAPTISTERY RHINO LINED As authorized by the church at a special business conference held on July 9, Rhino Linings of the Crystal Coast (located in Morehead City) lined our baptistery on Friday, July 11 for a total cost of $1,600. Our baptistery is now rust-free, essentially maintenance-free, and ready for use!
$500 FOR RHINO-LINED BAPTISTERY RECEIVED We are happy to report that in the July 13 morning offering a $500 check designated for Rhino lining the baptistery was received. The Lord is pleased, we are sure, when his people support his churches not only with their tithes but with special gifts that facilitate his work – such as permanently eliminating rust from the baptistery by Rhino lining it.
BAPTISM PLANNED We anticipate that the next baptism will be held on Sunday morning August 17, 24, or 31. Those being baptized will pick the date. Currently, Hannah Barclay, Emily Kittrell, and Mike Young are awaiting baptism. If you are ready to be baptized – and to thereby give witness to the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life – please contact the pastor. We would be happy to include you in the August baptism.
DATE OF AUGUST WORKDAY SET The next church-wide workday will be held on Saturday, August 9 (the second Saturday in August), starting at 8:00 AM. The church will host a live Beth Moore simulcast on August 1st and 2nd (the first weekend of the month in August – when our workdays are normally held).
DRY-WALLING AND LANDSCAPING TO BE DONE ON WORKDAY At the August 9 workday, two major projects are slated for attention – dry-walling the baptistery area and landscaping the area beside the ramp leading to the double glass doors of Goodwin Hall. Workers (for these and other projects) are needed! At noon on August 9, Kathy Davis and her friends will graciously serve us a delicious, hot-cooked meal with all the trimmings.
MIKE YOUNG PUTTING TOGETHER A DRY-WALLING CREW Mike Young has graciously agreed to put together and to lead a crew that will dry wall the baptistery area on Saturday morning, August 9. If you are willing to help with this work, contact Mike.
YOUTH TO STUDY CASE FOR CHRISTIANITY Over the next several weeks, our young people will study The Case for Christianity, copyrighted in 2007 and written by New York Times’ bestselling evangelical author Lee Strobel. In The Case for Christianity, Lee Strobel investigates and exposes the fallacies in current attacks on the legitimacy of holding to a Four Gospels-based understanding of the identity of Christ. Jackie Joplin and Brent Stevenson will teach this excellent material.
RA/GA MINISTRIES HIGHLIGHTED We are happy today to highlight the Royal Ambassador (RA) and Girls in Action (GA) ministries that we offer. RA’s is a missions organization for 1st – 6th grade boys; GA’s is designed for 1st – 6th grade girls. In addition to telling us a little about these ministries, our RA’s and GA’s will this morning share a mission moment right before the offering.
AGELESS WONDERS TO HAVE LUNCH TOGETHER Departing from the church parking lot at 10:45 AM on Tuesday, July 29th, the Ageless Wonders (our FBC-sponsored senior adult group) will travel in the church van to Morgan’s in New Bern to have lunch. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to go along. Adult friends who may not necessarily be 55 are also welcome to go along. Denise Wilber is organizing this event.
FEMALE CANTATA SINGERS RECRUITED In an amazing turn around, Director of Church Music David Carter reports that he has enough men but not enough women to perform the Christmas cantata Joyful and Triumphant. The men’s (bass) section is overpowering the soprano and alto (women’s) sections. Ladies, David needs your help! The Sanctuary Choir rehearses in the music room (located in Goodwin Hall) every Wednesday from 7:30 PM to about 8:45 PM. Nursery is provided.
BETH MOORE TICKETS NOW $35 The deadline for taking advantage of the “early bird special” price of $30 for the August 1st and 2nd Beth Moore simulcast has now come and gone. Tickets for this “Living Proof” live simulcast, being hosted by First Baptist Church of Havelock, may now be purchased for $35. If space remains, tickets may also be purchased at the door for $35. Those who attend this nationwide simulcast will, we believe, grow in their daily walk with the Lord. To purchase tickets, call Jackie Joplin (252-447-2913) or the church office (447-8478).
SUMMER ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN CONTINUE THIS WEDNESDAY With Cindy Fone serving as coordinator and Genell Bloyd assisting, summer fun activities for 1st – 6th graders have been lined up from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM each Wednesday through August. While the adults enjoy prayer and Bible study, Cindy and Genell have planned a crafts activity for the children for this Wednesday, July 23.
DAVID PEEL AND FRIENDS TO GRILL HAMBURGERS AND HOT DOGS A team of chefs headed up by David Peel will grill hamburgers and hot dogs for a meal and movie night to be held at 5:30 PM on Sunday, August 10. After enjoying a covered dish dinner, the four-star movie Amazing Grace (featuring the life of Wm Wilberforce) will be shown upstairs.
SUNDAY NIGHT LORD’S SUPPER TEAM NEEDED Our Japanese ladies (who for as long as I can remember have prepared the elements for our monthly communion observances) are requesting that a second team be formed to prepare the elements for Sunday evenings. In other words, the Japanese will continue to make preparations for Sunday morning communions, but want a new team to take over the preparation of the elements for our every-other-month Sunday evening observances of the Lord’s Supper. If willing to help meet this request, please contact chairman of deacons Steve White or the pastor.
N.C. MISSION OPPORTUNITIES NOTED We have received two emails from Gaylon Moss, Disaster Relief Director for the Baptist State Convention of N.C., informing us of the following two mission opportunities: (1) “Deep Impact at Grifton” will be held from July 27 – August 3; (2) A major construction project at Camp Caraway (the N.C. Baptist State Conference Center, located near Asheboro) will take place between August 4 and September 27, with volunteers needed on a week-by-week basis. For more information and for guidance on how to volunteer, read these emails at the Information Center.
ADDITIONAL GRASS CUTTERS NEEDED In August we will reach the bottom of our list of volunteer grass-cutters. If you are willing to cut the church grounds grass but have not yet taken a turn, please contact volunteer coordinator Debra Carter If, having already taken a turn, you would be willing to take a second turn, also please contact Debra. The church provides the equipment and the gas. Those who volunteer will be rewarded with the good feeling that comes from being able to see the fruit of their labor.
SERVING THE SAVIOR SURVEYS DISTRIBUTED How do you plan to serve the Lord in the days ahead? By filling out the Serving the Savior Survey (which may be picked up from a table in the back of the sanctuary), you can let us know where you would like to serve. Once forms have been filled out and gathered, the Nominating Committee (chaired by Heide Heding) will do its best to match people with places of service.

NEW MEMBERS PROVIDE HOUSE CLEANING SERVICE On June 29, Larry and Gabrielle Gerosa joined with us in membership. Larry and Gabrielle, who came to us from First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, own a business they call “Happy Home Cleaning.” We are convinced that Larry and Gabrielle do good work, and we want to help them get their business established in Havelock. If you have a cleaning project that Larry and Gabrielle could take care of for you, please give them a call. For more information or to request an estimate, contact Larry or Gabrielle at 910-219-0027 (home) or 910-219-0026 (cell). “A Clean Home Is a Happy Home!”

MISSION MOMENT Dennis and Lois Hartnett are one of six couples that make up the LEAD team in South Asia. Each couple travels to teach basic Bible doctrine, leadership, and church-planting principles to national laity. One indigenous pastor from India learned how to conduct chronological Bible studies at a LEAD seminar. Now he shares the story of God’s self-revelation as disclosed in Scripture with more than 120 people in eight villages. Our Cooperative Program enables such outreach and evangelism ministries as LEAD to flourish throughout the world.
